Shirley Gwin Obituary

Shirley A. Gwin, 87, of Bessemer, died Thursday, December 18, 2025, at WeCare Jameson Nursing and Rehab Center in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Shirley was born April 17, 1938, in Bessemer, Pennsylvania, to Joe (Curley) and Mary Werhnyak Puz. She graduated from Bessemer High School.
In her early years she worked at Commercial Shearing and Stamping in Youngstown, Ohio
She married her husband, W. Gayle Gwin, on October 24, 1959, and they were married for 63 years. Shirley was a full-time homemaker and a life-long member of St. Anthony Parish in Bessemer, now part of Holy Spirit Parish.
Shirley played the accordion for many years when she was young, she also loved to bake and crochet.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Christine (Anthony) Piatek, of New Castle; sons, Russel (Janice) Gwin of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Mark (Kimberly) Gwin of Bessemer; grandchildren, Matthew (Nichole) Piatek, Amanda (Aaron) Guzzo, and Marianne (Aaron) Doutt; and great-grandchildren, Kelly Christine and Jason Thomas Guzzo.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Gayle, granddaughter Kelly Baker Piatek and great-granddaughter Kenzie Grace Guzzo.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave, New Castle, PA 16105, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm and burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Bessemer.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shirley's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
