Marie D. (Mary) Horrell

Marie D. (Mary) Horrell, 75, of North Beaver Township, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 13, 2025.  Mary was born in New Castle on February 4, 1950, a daughter of the late Fred and Dorothy (Marshall) Schmitt and was raised in Hillsville.  She was married to her beloved husband of over forty years, Charles H. Horrell, until his passing on March 3, 2015. 

Mary was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  She was known for her wonderful crafting, cooking, and baking, especially her amazing pies.  Mary enjoyed, above all, spending time with her family and friends and getting together for family dinners and game nights.  She was an amazing aunt to her many nieces and nephews, as well as an excellent caregiver to several children over the years.  Later in life, she worked for Tic Toc Food Mart in Mt. Jackson until her retirement.

Mary is survived by two brothers, Dwight (Frances) Schmitt and Douglas Schmitt; two sisters, Denise (Richard) Rausch and Doreen Ambrosini; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Schmitt, a sister-in-law, Royann Schmitt, a brother-in-law, Jon Horrell, and her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Ruth Horrell. 

Per Mary’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services planned.  A family get-together will be planned at a later date to honor her loving memory.  She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at the Plain Grove Cemetery.  Arrangements are being made by the Terry Cunningham Funeral home in Bessemer.
