Petersburg - Linda Shandor peacefully passed away on June 5, 2024 with her family by her side. Born in Seattle, Washington in 1948 to Joseph and Marie Stoll, she traveled extensively through Europe as a child during her father’s military service. The family eventually settled in New Springfield and Lynn graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1967. She had five children with her former, late husband, Dave Shandor, and she devoted many years to raising her children and taking care of her home in Petersburg. Lynn loved to spend hours caring for her garden and her flowers, which surrounded every side of her home and grew over the years to include the many flower beds throughout the yard. She was a skilled baker and every holiday was filled with her homemade pies, cakes, and cookies. Eventually, she was assisted by her grandchildren, who she adored and loved to have “help” her with the baking. Lynn loved camping and attending the Canfield Fair, and managed to combine those two activities many times with her long-time partner John Rice, with whom she shared many years of adventures and wonderful memories. She loved afternoons at the lake, spending time with family, and catching up with old friends, all of whom will miss her joyful laughter and her thoughtful handwritten letters of love and support.
Lynn leaves her sisters Lori Bailey (Jim), Barb Hanks (Scott), her daughters, Heather Anastos (Eli), of Kennewick, Washington, Colleen Shaw (Mark), of Petersburg and Lorilyn Shandor (Jessica) of New Middletown; her son, Steven Shandor of Poland and three grandsons, Dolton Shaw, U.S.M.C. (Elizabeth), Wyatt Shaw, and Andrew Shandor; her longtime partner John Rice; and “Uncle Bob” Beil, who visited her many times over the years and who always brought a good story and a container of St. Paul’s pierogies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Bradley Shandor, her sister Susan Decaminada, her brother-in-law John Decaminada, and her nephew Jared Bailey.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for Lynn over the years both before and after her transplant 25 years ago, including Dr. Kolozsi, Dr. Babich, Dr. Rubino, the staff at Covington Skilled Nursing, and the staff of Patriot Hospice. The gift of that successful transplant allowed Lynn to meet her grandchildren and see them grow up and to spend many healthy years with family and friends, and the family would like to remember the donor and their family for their decision which changed so many lives.
Pursuant to Lynn’s wishes, a small family service will be held in the near future. Memorial contributions may be made to The Canfield Fair Foundation, PO Box 250, Canfield, OH 44406 or Lifebanc, PO Box 933388, Cleveland, OH 44193-0038.
Arrangements are by Terry Cunningham Funeral Home in Bessemer, Pa.
