Joan Shearer Raney, 93, of North Beaver Township went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 18, 2026, after a short stay at Masternick Nursing Home.
She was born in Connoquenessing, PA, on January 29, 1933 to John and Mabel Shearer. Joan moved to New Castle during high school and graduated from New Castle High in 1951. After high school, she worked at Electrolux and First Federal before marrying her sweetheart, Lloyd Raney, on April 2, 1955, when he returned home from serving in the Army. They settled next to the Raney farm and enjoyed 65 years there together before Lloyd preceded her in death. Joan was a faithful wife, homemaker, and mother, and returned to part time work after her children were in school, for a variety of employers including Lawrence County DA, Mt. Jackson Mutual Insurance, Klafters Gifts, Felgers Nursery, and Bethel Church.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mabel Shearer, brothers David and Bryce, and sisters Jean and Hazel. She is survived by a large and loving family of 76 including sons Jeffrey (Brenda) Raney of Adamsville, PA, and Russell (Nancy) Raney of Ypsilanti, MI, and daughters Diane (Gary) Harman, Janice (Michael) Grim, and Karen (Douglas) Beatty, all from North Beaver Township. She has 34 adoring grandchildren (including 16 by marriage) and 32 great grandchildren who affectionately know her as ‘GG’.
Joan was a member of Bethel Church of Enon Valley since 1955 where she served as Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, Custodian, Deacon, and Secretarial staff. She was also a member of North Beaver Township Civic Club and Westfield Grange where she served in several different offices and maintained many friendships.
Joan enjoyed keeping a lovely and tidy home, preparing delicious food and desserts for loved ones, sewing, reading, watching grandchildren, bus trips with her best friend and husband Lloyd, and the many celebrations of a large and loving family. She will be remembered for her kindness, her work ethic, her devotion to her husband and family, and her faithfulness to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be missed by family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing she has gone on to her heavenly home.
Visitation will be at Bethel EPC, 154 Petersburg Road, Enon Valley, PA on May 21, 2026, beginning at 10:30 am with the funeral service starting at 12:30PM.
