James P. Mihaly, 77 of Enon Valley passed away peacefully at his residence on August 25, 2024 from secondary effects of chemicals used in the Vietnam War. He was born on May 31, 1947 to Peter and June E. (Geisler) Mihaly in Connellsville, PA.
In 1967 he married Carol Smith from South Connellsville, PA. Jim left for Vietnam when his oldest daughter was a couple days old. He was a veteran of the US Army holding the rank of SP5. He fought in one of the largest military campaigns, the TET Offensive of 68.
After serving in the war, Jim worked as a brakeman for P&LE Railroad, and later on an engineer for the CSX Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion for 14 years and the 700 club. He attended VCC in Coitsville, Ohio.
Jim was a kind, generous, helping person, and reached out to those in need. Jim was a very talented carpenter; he built his beautiful family home, harvesting and milling the trees on his property. He made furniture, and would kindly give it to his family, friends, and people in need, especially his church family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and watching his favorite football team the Pittsburgh Steelers.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol Mihaly; five children, Tina Mack, Sheri Shaffer, Peter Mihaly, Paul Mihaly and Jerry Mihaly; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; three brothers and seven sisters.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 11:00am-12:45pm at Terry Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, PA 16112. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will present honors for Jim at 12:45pm with a funeral service immediately following.
Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa.
