Betty Tanner, age 89, of Youngstown, passed away on May 23, 2026, at the Inn at Poland Way. Born on September 25, 1936, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of Russell and Edna (Houk) Tanner.
A graduate of Bessemer High School, Betty went on to work as an adjuster for State Farm Insurance, where she was known for her dedication and steady kindness.
Betty cherished time spent with her family. She enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, water skiing, and snowmobiling, and she was a proud and loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
She is survived by her many loving nieces and nephews: Rick (Rita) Tanner, Ron (Bonnie) Tanner, Rusty (Robin) Tanner, Robin (Randy) Knepp, Randy (Jan) Tanner, Renee Tanner, Wayne Hoops, Bobby (Jeanna) Tanner, Susie (Jeff) Kerr, Sharon Hlusko, Marty Tanner, Jeff Tanner, and Kevin (Lisa) Tanner along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Tanner, and Helen Jane Tanner.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Terry Cunningham Funeral Home in Bessemer, PA.
Funeral services will take place Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Patriot Hospice.
